Golf Croquet Autumn Doubles
3 September 2011

The hoop fairy is back from an extended holiday in Never-Never Land in time to catch up with the latest action on the lawns.

GC Autumn Doubles lineup

The 2011 Autumn Doubles (GC) was managed by Alan Stubbs and Barbara Williamson on Saturday 3rd September. Barbara reports:

Although the day started dampish it brightened during the afternoon and a great day was enjoyed by all taking part. There were eight members playing (see picture).

The top teams were:

Alan S/David MB - winners
David G/Barbara W - runners up

As an aside it was nice to see the other field being used for a large party barbie/picnic, with all the recent facilities being used and the field used too for other ball activities. My thanks too, to Rosemary for - once again - the delicious cakes.

They went down like nine-pins...
17 February 2011

On Saturday, 12th February, in the Astons Village Hall, the Club held an all-action skittles and supper (or was it supper and skittles?) evening.

Astons Village Hall supper tables

Susan Tilbrook organised it with the Social Events sub-committee, to whom many thanks. They report:

An evening of fun & laughter was enjoyed by over 50 people on Saturday. Everybody had at least two games of skittles but only one person managed to knock all nine pins down in both games (well done Barbara!). Green team were the overall winners. There was also a glittering treasure quiz around the room, and the Richards' opinion-polling pin board with a selection of proverbs and platitudes.

One supper table

A delicious supper of baked potatoes & choice of fillings was followed by heavenly deserts – many people came back for seconds, thirds & even fourths!

We are now working towards our quiz evening on 19th March in Upton Village Hall and hope to see you all again then.
